|Title||Jimmy Jones' Birthday Card|
This item is a caricature-style drawing of trainer Jimmy Jones done by Jim Raftery. The drawing shows a man dressed in a suit on the far right. The head of the man is a cut-out photo of Jimmy Jones. On the far left are a group of directional signs pointing the ways to the following destinations: Monmouth Park, Parnell, Mo., Louisville, Hialeah, Pimlico, Saratoga Springs, Belmont Park, Arlington Park, Laurel, Bowie and Santa Anita.
In the center of the drawing there is a poem which reads as follows: "H.A. "Jimmy" Jones/You soon will hit three score and ten/And you're still making hay-/You still can do most all the things/That you did in your day!/Now you can dance and have romance/You claim you're feeling fine/But Jim you know it's time to slow/You're passing sixty nine!/Just rest your laurels/Forget about whoopee/But if you click with a sweet chick/Just send her down-to me!/HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"
Below the poem are the following signatures: Howard Beyer, Bud White, Phyllis Nelson, Alice Berger, Jimmy Iselin, Betty and Phil Iselin, Peter Colona, Elen Barnett, Peggy Jones, Dottie Raftery, Betty Harvey, John Barboun, Nick Egrko, Dolly Marino, Marie White, Everitt Isa, Charlie & Janet Douglas and Peggy Jones.
The artist Jim Raftery has signed his name "Jim Raftery Nov 1976" just below the text of the poem and "RAF" at the bottom right corner of the drawing.
On the back there is a sketch of a pallet and brushes. Written within the pallet are the words "Jimbo/Jim Raftery/Original/Nov. 1976".
