|Title||Jim Bolus interviews and audio recorded at the 1977 Kentucky Derby draw, and at the 1977 Kentucky Derby, and an additional interview with John Fulton|
The first section contains audio recorded at the 1977 Kentucky Derby Draw. He seems to be in the audience as the horses' post positions are drawn and called. Following this is a press conference. The first speaker is Bill Turner, trainer of Seattle Slew, who explains his history with the horse and discusses his prior races and expectations for the Derby. The horse's owners, Mickey and Karen Taylor, also speak to reporters, expressing their confidence in Turner's training and Seattle Slew's abilities. The next speaker is Jean Cruguet, Seattle Slew's jockey, who speaks to the horse's ability and preferences, and how he responds on the track.
The next segment contains audio and interviews recorded at Churchill Downs on Derby Day 1977. Bolus and others speak briefly with Karen Taylor, owner of Seattle Slew. During the next segment he seems to be in the grandstand crowd. A few other speakers can be heard amid crowd noise, but it is unclear who they are.
The end of Side B contains a brief segment from a phone interview, which Bolus seems to be recording over. Speaker unknown.
Bolus speaks with trainer John Fulton (Saturday May 14, 1977). They discuss Steve's Friend's performance in the Kentucky Derby, during which the horse sustained a minor injury. They also discuss Sweet Little Lady, a filly Fulton is training, who ran in the Twin Spires Stakes. Fulton refutes news reports claiming she is dangerous. Fulton also discusses George Steinbrenner, for whom he currently trains. The two also discuss the New York Yankees, owned by Steinbrenner, and their prospects for the current season. They return to discussing Sweet Little Lady, and Fulton expresses his confidence in her speed and ability.
