|Title||Jim Bolus interviews with George Taniguchi, John Dishman, Laffit Pincay, and Bud Delp, and audio from the 1979 Kentucky Derby draw.|
Bolus first interviews retired jockey George Taniguchi. He shares memories of riding Silky Sullivan early in the horse's racing career. He also remembers his experience riding Indian Creek in the 1957 Kentucky Derby.
Bolus next speaks with John Dishman, a former groom, about his experiences two Kentucky Derby winning horses. Mr. Dishman shares stories about 1913 Derby winner Donerail, and 1929 Derby winner Clyde Van Dusen.
Bolus speaks first to a jockey, probably Lafitt Pincay, about General Assembly. They discuss his recent race performances and trainer LeRoy Jolley's plans for him.
Bolus next interviewee is not directly identified, but is likely Smiley Adams, trainer of Lot O' Gold. The audio is somewhat difficult to hear in this section. Adams and Bolus seem to be discussing jockey Darrel McHargue's decision not to ride Lot O' Gold in the 1979 Kentucky Derby. Adams also discusses Lot O' Gold's prospects for the upcoming race.
In the next section, Bolus speaks briefly to several trainers in a row, who are not identified. The first is likely Luis Barrera. Bolus asks each trainer who will be serving as his horse's veterinarian while at Churchill Downs.
Bolus next joins a group interview with trainer Bud Delp. Delp discusses race strategy for the upcoming Kentucky Derby. He also discusses Spectacular Bid's recent race performances, and how well the horse has recovered from them. Delp praises his horse's abilities, his personality, and his responsiveness to training.
Next there is a very brief exchange between Bolus and an unidentified gentleman explaining how Spectacular Bid got his name. This may possibly be Tom Meyerhoff, co-owner of Spectacular Bid.
The next section contains audio from the 1979 Kentucky Derby draw. After post positions have been drawn, Bolus speaks briefly with an unidentified man in the crowd. The remainder of Side B is blank.
