This tape was created by Jim Bolus.
Discussion with Turner, Irvine and Moore is about moving the grave of Sir Barton from Dr. Hilton's farm to the City Park in Douglas, WY in the early 1970s. Turner, who is a true racing fan and lives in Douglas, was responsible for moving the grave and having the J.C.'s raise the $2000.00 needed to have a bronze-colored fiberglass statue created in the Park along with a plaque donated by Preston Madden, the grandson of John Madden, the breeder of Sir Barton. Turner advertised for funds in the Thoroughbred Times and about $50.00 was donated including $1.00 from Sir Barton's groom. There was no ceremony held at the time of the grave's relocation.
Gilardi, jockey's agent, discussed at length the 1978 Derby with Steve Cauthen on Affirmed and Jorge Valasquez on Alydar and some of the problems that jockeys have in racing.
