|Title||Jim Bolus interview with James "Goggles" McCoy, April 1978|
Retired jockey James "Goggles" McCoy shares stories about how he came to be a jockey, and notable experiences throughout his long career. McCoy earned his nickname when he began wearing eye protection while racing, the first jockey to do so. McCoy discusses how he got his first job as a jockey, his first win, some contested races in which he competed, various owners (including a Mafia don) for whom he has raced and/or trained horses, and making a comeback late in his career.
McCoy continues his reminiscences. He discusses some horses that he has raced, and gives his opinion of some other jockeys he regularly raced against. McCoy also describes the eye injury that inspired him to begin wearing eye protection while racing, and the ridicule he initially faced until the practice became widespread during the 1930s. Audio on Side B ends at 24:58.
